A Legacy That Predates Us: Before 1961
- The Braley Wellington Group didn't emerge from nowhere. It grew from a network of independent agencies that had been serving Central Massachusetts families and businesses for generations.
- The oldest of these is the C.D. Whitney Insurance Agency, established in Millbury in 1853. For more than a century, Whitney built its reputation on personal relationships and deep community ties, earning a 65-year association with The Travelers Insurance Company that was recognized with a gold plaque presented at a ceremony in Millbury. Whitney's longevity wasn't accidental. It reflected a commitment to knowing its clients and their needs, year after year.
- The H.B. Conant Insurance Agency in Auburn and the Braley & Wellington Insurance Agency in Worcester brought their own decades of local service to the group. Together, these three agencies formed the foundation of what would become the Braley Wellington Group: independently operated, community-driven, and built on the kind of trust that takes generations to earn.
From Humble Beginnings to Lasting Growth: 1961-1990
In 1961, Tom Braley founded what would become the Braley Wellington Group in Worcester, Massachusetts. From the start, the agency was built on personal service and community commitment, earning the trust of local families and businesses one relationship at a time. Over the following decades, the group grew steadily, welcoming established local agencies whose values aligned with its own. The name changed as the organization evolved, but the purpose remained the same: provide thoughtful, dependable insurance guidance to the people and businesses of Central Massachusetts and beyond.
Staying True to Our Small-Agency Values: 1990 - Present
Growth hasn’t changed who we are. In the early 2000s, the C.D. Whitney Insurance Agency of Millbury joined the group, followed by the P.J. Ferguson Insurance Agency of Leominster. Each addition brought new expertise and deeper community reach without sacrificing the personalized attention our clients expected. Today, five independently operated agencies make up the Braley Wellington Group, each serving its local community the way it always has: with genuine relationships, careful guidance, and a commitment to getting coverage right.
